Direct Pressure & Suction Blast Cabinet’s Specification

Ruggedly constructed of .118" and .157" mild steel plate, laser cut and fully MIG welded, ergonomic design offers the operator maximum blasting comfort. Pneumatically interlocked dismountable access doors provide an opening to each side of the cabinet. Baffled air entries mounted to the cabinet roof provide downdraught air flow for ventilation and abrasive recovery. A floor grid of 100kg dissipated load capacity fitted to floor support bars.

Large viewing window manufactured from 6mm laminated glass provides ample visibility into the cabinet and is mounted to allow easy exchange. Mounted below the viewing window are heavy duty rubber gloves with 9.75" diameter entries.

The cabinet roof is fitted with twin 18 watt tube fluorescent light assembly encased in IP44 rated housing and protected by replaceable glass cover.

Suction blast gun (models 900s, 1200s and 1500s)

One unit of lightweight aluminum suction blast gun fitted with .157" air tip and .315" Ø boron carbide nozzle. Tungsten carbide lined abrasive regulator fitted to base of cyclone meters abrasive volume to the blast gun. Abrasive regulator is positioned to provide a direct feed into the blast gun to minimize abrasive pick up energy loss. Control of the suction blast gun is via foot pedal located at the operator work station.

Blast generator (models 900p, 1200p and 1500p)

One unit of SPH150 blasting generator with a capacity of approx. 4 gallons. Control of the blasting generator is via foot pedal located at the operator work station. The blasting generator is fitted with high precision abrasive dosing valve and blasting air pressure regulation. The blasting generator automatically refills with abrasive each time the blasting is stopped. The blasting generator is fitted with a light weight blast hose and 3/16" blasting nozzle entering the blasting chamber through the cabinet roof.

Abrasive recovery

Spent abrasive is continually removed from the cabinet by means of pneumatic conveying generated by the ventilation air flow. The lower hopper of the cabinet is fitted with a heavy duty pneumatic conveying hose to the abrasive cyclone. .394" thick wear plate at cyclone entry eliminates premature wear.

Abrasive cleaning

A two stage abrasive cleaning cycle ensures only correctly sized pure media is returned to the blasting nozzle during each blasting cycle. A centrifugal cyclone cleans the recovered abrasive and separates fines and dust from the good reusable abrasive. Air intake permits adjustment of the cleaning intensity. Dust free abrasive is sieved to remove oversized and coarse contamination. An abrasive storage bin, fitted below the abrasive cyclone, stores abrasive prior to abrasive regulator.

Dust collector

Ventilation and recovery airflow is generated by a Blast & Peen “Tru-Downflow” cartridge reverse pulse dust collector. This uniquely designed dust collector constantly provides excellent filtering efficiency and prevents the filter cartridges becoming clogged with dust, ensuring visibility in the blasting cabinet is always maintained at the highest level.

Direct mounted fan encased in sound insulated enclosure. Solid state controller is utilized to control the reverse jet pulse cleaning system fitted to the dust collector. The reverse jet pulse cleaning system is fully automatic and requires no user input once set.

A waste bin below the dust collector hopper collects debris for disposal.

Electrical controls

Controls for the dust collector fan and cabinet lighting are fitted to the blasting cabinet.

Painting

The equipment is painted white with red access panels and covers.

2 sets of manuals are provided with the equipment. The manuals are in English and contain; operating instructions, maintenance instructions, bills of materials, safety instructions.

Productivity

SuperFlow Design
Our Standard Flow Blast Pots and other brand conventional blast pots are fitted with 90 degree lower cone. The SuperFlow design is 120 degree steep lower cone. This increased angle of the lower cone provides a more consistent abrasive flow to the metering valve and ensures the pot is suitable for all abrasive types. Even the finest of abrasives ie, garnet, glass beads, sodium bicarbonate etc., will flow smoothly and uninterrupted. 

Ease of Maintenance
Control and abrasive metering valving are mounted to bolt on/off flanges. The valves are quickly, easily and safely removed from the blast pot as and when maintenance is required. Only basic hand tools required for servicing. No more tiny hand hole to squeeze into to service pop up valve and seating ring. Removable bolt on seating ring housing permits full access to the blast pot interior. Replacing pop up valve and seating ring has never been easier. Safety. Rigid support frame and over size wheels allows the SuperFlow blast pot to be easily moved and firmly positioned. With the fully removable seating ring housing confined space and access issues are totally eliminated.

The alpha-blast FatBoy series of blast pots have been designed and built specifically for high production open blast and blastroom applications. Combining bulk abrasive storage capacities and multiple outlets the FatBoy series provides extended blasting times to maximize productivity and increase profitability. Incorporating many safety features the FatBoy series keeps operators safe and ensures compliance with the strictest of worksite safety requirements. 

If your blasting requirement is for high productivity and extended blasting times, without stopping to refill with abrasive, there is a FatBoy blast pot perfectly suited for your application.

Maintenance and Safety
In order to permit safe periodic maintenance FatBoy blast pots are fitted with a safety ladder and access platform as standard. The ladder and platform provide access to the top of the blast pot for abrasive refilling and for removal or repair of the sealing pop up valve. If the pop up valve requires removal for servicing a manual hoisting winch is utilized to safely lift out the valve and swing it to the platform. The access platform is fully compliant with Australian Standard AS 1657—1992. 

All FatBoy blast pot pressure vessels are designed and manufactured to AS 1210-2010 & ASME certified designs.

Convenience
FatBoy blast pots are skid mounted and fitted with forklift lifting points and certified lifting lugs to enable easy relocation and positioning. The mounting skid may also be fitted with holding fixtures or compartments for other components and accessories such as breathing air filter, blast hoses, blasting helmet etc.

BLAST & PAINT ROOMS:

 

~Blast Rooms

Most fabricated steel items that are going to be utilized in a highly corrosive environment, or exposed to the elements during their service life, are coated with a protective coating prior to being put into service. Critical to the long life of the protective coating is the surface preparation of the steel before the application of the coating. Poorly prepared (either not clean enough or incorrect profile depth) surfaces will not allow the protective coating to adhere correctly and will result in premature coating failure.

By far the best way to prepare a steel surface for its protective coating is to abrasive blast it. And by far the best way to blast the steel is inside a blastroom using steel grit as the abrasive. As steel grit is so tough it can be recycled hundreds of times and results in the lowest possible per meter/foot blasting cost.

The TruGrit Blastroom is designed specifically for use with steel grit to produce high quality surface finished products at the lowest possible cost. Automatic TruGlide full floor abrasive recovery returns all blasted grit and waste to the abrasive recycling plant. Here dust, milscale, rust and oversize waste are separated from good reusable abrasive ensuring every item blasted is done so with clean like new abrasive.

Bolt together modular blastroom structure is lined with rubber curtains to prevent wear. DuraDoor rubber roll up doors fitted to the end(s) of the blastroom save space and reduce nozzle noise levels emitting from the blast room.

Fitted with a TDF ventilation dust collector all blasting dust is captured during blasting to improve operator visibility and prevent dust contamination of the surrounding area and work place.

~Wind Tower Blasting

The blasting of wind towers requires both high quality surface preparation and high production rates. Wind turbine towers present huge flat surface areas that require huge amounts of abrasive to blast clean. Our wind tower blast rooms are engineered and configured to provide reduced blasting times and keep abrasive recovery to a minimum.

To minimize abrasive cost the recommended abrasive for this application is steel grit (DuraGrit). This tough angular abrasive is able to be recycled hundreds of times resulting in the lowest abrasive consumption cost per square meter.

Several abrasive recovery methods are available to recover the abrasive. For high production requirements the use of the TruGrit recovery floor system will provide continuous abrasive recovery and prevent any valuable blasting time being wasted on recovering abrasive. Less clean up time equates to more blasting production time. Partial abrasive recovery systems provide lower capital investment and utilise correctly positioned screw or belt conveyors into which the abrasive is deposited.

Our 80dba high production vacuum recovery unit will quickly and easily remove left over abrasive from the internals of the wind tower sections and can also be used for surface vacuuming to ensure maximum surface cleanliness.

In areas of high humidity low energy dehumidifiers are integrated into the blastroom ventilation system to keep Relative Humidity levels within the room below 60%. At this low humidity level even the largest of wind towers will not flash rust between blasting and painting.

To ensure maximum visibility, and a dust free environment in surrounding areas, the wind tower blast room is fitted with a TDF ventilation dust collectors to provide the correct air flow movement through the blast room.

~Paint Rooms

Blastechnik Industrial Spray Painting Booths are built specifically for the application of industrial spray painting and are designed and constructed either from folded bolt together steel panels or, if fire safety is a major concern, from 2 hour fire resistant Rockwool filled sandwich panels, tested to British Standards.

Operator safety and risk of fire are important criteria when designing spray painting booths. Blastechnik Industrial Spray Painting Booths are designed to comply with regulations such as NFPA33 and AS/NZ4114 to ensure all safety requirements are met and property and personnel damage or injury is kept to a minimum. Different countries have different safety requirements; our booths always follow the strictest regulations regardless of what is actually required.

Additional safety features built into our booths include: 

  • Fan assemblies are fitted with non-sparking aluminum impellor and externally mounted electric motor prevent explosion hazard from sparking.
  • Exhaust fan inlet silencer reduces operator’s exposure to fan noise.
  • Progressive woven fiberglass outlet filters efficiently trap paint overspray and prevent environmental pollution from exhaust air stream.

~Combination Valve

This valve is a one piece normally closed air inlet and outlet valve. A short length of blast hose is used for the blow down function that eliminates any abrasive coming into contact with the valve. ~Reduce abrasive consumption and save money. The alpha-blast Abrasive Saver Valve will save a fortune in wasted abrasive. The screw in plunger permits very accurate adjustment to allow just the right amount of abrasive to the blast nozzle.

~Pinch Valve

Tough, simple and reliable the alpha-blast Pinch Valve is used to shut off abrasive and air flow in the blast hose as it leaves the abrasive metering valve. Simple pneumatic operation and minimal moving parts ensure reliable continuous operation.

As no abrasive actually passes through the valve there is nothing to wear out or fail. Once the portion of blast hose passing through the valve wears out it is simply replaced with a new section.

~Isolator Valve

The alpha-blast Isolator Valve is a great maintenance time saving device. Fitted above the abrasive metering valve it permits the metering valve to be removed from the blast pot for service, without the need to empty the abrasive from the pot, which saves a huge amount of time.

~Nylon Nozzle Holder

Light weight, yet extremely tough, alpha-blast nylon nozzle holders provide quick and easy attachment of blast nozzles to the blast hose.

Precision injection moulding ensures very tight dimensional accuracy. Fitted with an internal raised thread the alpha-blast nylon nozzle holder fits tightly and securely to the blast hose. The combination of the internal raised thread and air pressure inside the blast hose ensures the nozzle holder will not disengage from the blast hose.

Being manufactured from a flexible nylon compound the nozzle holder will return to its original shape even after being knocked or accidentally impacted.

~Nylon Hose Coupling

Light weight, yet extremely tough, alpha-blast nylon hose couplings provide quick and easy attachment of the blast hose to the blast pot, or another blast hose.

Precision injection moulding ensures very tight dimensional accuracy. Fitted with an internal raised thread the alpha-blast nylon hose coupling fits tightly and securely to the blast hose. An integral spring locking pin locks into the mating coupling and prevents the couplings accidentally separating.

Being manufactured from a flexible nylon compound the hose coupling will return to its original shape even after being knocked or accidentally impacted.

~Air Hose Fittings.

Inadequately secured or loose compressed air hoses are dangerous to operators, and air leaks waste money. Most cases of blown off air hoses are caused by the use of cheap inferior quality clamps and hose tails that are not up to the job required for blast cleaning.

Hose tails are fitted with a ring groove for the clamp to lock into to prevent the hose pulling off.

~Angle Nozzle

Alpha-blast angle nozzles are designed to increase productivity in inaccessible and hard to reach areas, ie behind beams, inside pipes, around lattice etc.

Instead of depending on rebounding and ricocheting abrasive to reach the inaccessible areas the use of alphablast angle nozzles allows the operator to blast directly onto the part. This increases blasting speed and also produces the correct surface profile.

The durable combination of a tungsten carbide liner and 50mm contractor thread aluminium outer jacket ensures the angle nozzle is not easily damaged whilst in use.

~Short Venturi Nozzle

Alpha-blast short venturi nozzles are designed to increase productivity when blasting items with difficult to reach areas or containing a small surface area, ie railings, pipes, small fabrications, inside cavities etc.

By directing a concentrated stream of high velocity abrasive directly onto the work piece surface the blasting speed is increased as all the abrasive hits the work piece instead of large amounts missing the part.

~Water Jacket Nozzle

Abrasive blasting with expendable abrasives can produce huge amounts of dust. This is a problem for the environment and surrounding neighbours and workers.

You can easily reduce the dust levels by 80-90% by using the alpha-blast Water Jacket Nozzle. Simply connect a low pressure mains or tank water supply hose to the rear of the nozzle. The water mixes with the exiting air and abrasive mixture and forms a dust suppressing slurry.

Fitted with extremely durable tungsten carbide venturi ~liner encased in a tough aluminium jacket and fitted with 50mm contractor thread.
